This is so poignant and relevant. this Harry Chapin song, Cat's in the Cradle speaks to this far better than I can.

Aging ≠ Loneliness
Watch this 2-minute video first before you read the blurb below. You will enjoy it better this way.
Set in a retirement village in south east Asia, 3 elderly women speak proudly of their children's high-flying careers. Despite their pride, what is unsaid is that these children do not have time for their aging parent. In comparison, the 4th woman doesn't say much about her son. However, it is only this woman's son who has time for his mother.
Whilst this is seemingly Oriental in flavour, it isn't really so, because we all yearn for human connection, for friendship and relationship with others. It is this that makes us happy. Earlier on, I had a post on the Happiness Formula. Based on a study from Harvard University, it showed that, in life,
- The only thing that really matters in life is your relationships to others.
- Money does little to make us happier once our basic needs are met.
I thought I would post this video as it highlights these points so well.
Thanks to my Twitter friend @grentone for reminding me of this video.
Glad you like it, M. Thanks for Cat's in the Cradle. I agree - 'We reap what we sow. We are the makers of our own fate. None else has the blame, none has the praise.'
